Color psychology: Decorating with White
Posted by Charnell on July 9th, 2010
Suggests purity, innocence, and cleanliness. May evoke a sense of sterility, but is therefore great in kitchens (especially restaurant kitchens). White can be used to give an open, spacious feeling to a smaller work area. Soft, muted, or tinted whites are the best choice for the main wall colors in offices. Pure, bright white, when used in large quantities, can strain the eyes in a brightly lit work environment. Instead, use bright whites for trim and moldings to create a crisp, clean look.

Bedroom: On its own, pure brilliant white can look sterile or high-maintenance, particularly with very sleek interior design styles that involve lots of polished surfaces.

Bathroom: An room decorated mostly in white, doesn’t need to feel arctic (unless you’re living in a very warm climate). To make the room more warm and inviting, layer up tints (from chalky white, ivory, bone, rose etc.) and textures (in walls, textiles, and floor coverings). This will help make a white room warmer and more inviting.

Living room: White gives an airy / pure / clear / serene feel to a home. Mix in some neutral colors (grays and browns) to give it more of an “earthy” feel.

Dining room: On floor, walls and furniture, the color white can make a room feel larger than it is and add a crisp freshness to a room interior.

Kitchen: White gives the impression of cleanliness and sterility. A reason why it’s a favorite in restaurant kitchens.

Office: A white office can look very slick and sophisticated but can come across as impersonal and chilly if the “wrong” white is used.

How NOT to decorate in white: Chromophobia or Chromatophobia is the Fear of colors and yes it’s a real fear. If you don’t suffer from “Chromophobia” and just like this type of style, mix in some other shades of white (e.g. ‘bone’, ‘eggshell’, ‘arctic white’), to give the room more depth.

I have to first of all give kudos to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an amazing post. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only a few posses and frankly you have it. The combination of informative and quality content is definitely extremely rare with the large amount of blogs on the internet.
