Did you know...
The original clawfoot bath tubs were made of cast iron with an inside covering
of porcelain. The molten iron was poured into a sand cast giving shape to
the bath. The porcelain (made from sand heated at a high temperature) was
then poured into the cast iron bath tub to form a smooth porcelain surface.
The finished product typically weighed anything from 250 pounds to a whopping
400 pounds!
