Interresting (and horrific) sanitation facts

SanaGloss

SanaGloss is a toilet glazing that helps keep the toilet bowl clean for a lifetime. SanaGloss glazing seals the toilet bowl with an ionized barrier, creating a super smooth surface. This non-porous surface helps prevent particles from adhering to ceramic, while the catalyzed ion barrier actually repels particles away.

The difference between a one-piece and a two-piece toilet:

Two piece toilets have a separate tank and bowl, while one-piece designs have a single, integrated tank and bowl design. One-piece toilet designs are more popular for upscale residential installations.

The First Toilet: The toilet was not invented by Thomas Crapper as was originally thought but by an english gentleman named Sir John Harrington, godson to Queen Elizabeth I. In 1596, he set about making a "necessary" for his godmother and himself. Harrington unfortunately ended his career with this invention because of ridicule from his peers for this absurd device. He never built another one, but he and his godmother both used theirs. The idea was not adopted for almost 182 years.

Toilet Paper: In 1857, Joseph C. Gayetty of New York produced the first packaged toilet paper in the U.S. It consisted of pre-moistened flat sheets medicated with aloe and was named "Gayetty’s Medicated Paper".

1739: First separate toilet for men and women appear at a ball in Paris.

In 1973 evening talk show host Johnny Carson made a joke about the United States facing an acute shortage of toilet paper. The next day viewers ran out to stores buying every roll in sight and begin hoarding them and by noon, most stores were out of toilet paper. Carson apologized the following day for causing the scare and retracted his quote.

In olden days and before toilet tissue was invented, people had to get creative in matters concerning sanitation.

  • Ancient Rome - Citizens used a stick with a sponge attached to its end that soaked in a bucket of brine.
  • The wealthy in Ancient Rome used wool and rosewater.
  • In 1391, the Chinese Emperor ordered sheets of two feet by three feet of toilet paper to be made.
  • Lace and Hemp was used by French Royalty.
  • Eskimos used tundra moss if available otherwise they had to make do with snow.
  • Late Middle Ages The French invented the bidet for proper cleansing.

Strange Surveys

A survey was done to determine if respondents were "wadders" or "folders" of toilet paper. One result was that 58% of men fold toilet paper and 52% of women crumple their toilet paper.

Another survey determined that 49% of the respondents said that if stranded on an island, and they could take only one necessity, they would take toilet paper.
